Don't forget to petEvery now and again I'll have my mom come out and help with a horse.
And
sometimes I look up and she is just standing there watching me work colts or ride my saddle horses. She usually doesn't say a whole lot and when she does it has good value to it. She is quite the horsewoman herself.
I was working a young horse trying to get him riding and wanted her to help me get him going. His feet were stuck and he was this side of broncy. She watched me work him on the ground and saddle him up.
Then she made her valuable suggestion --- She said "you just need to rub on that horse for a while."
This was the busy part of the year with colts to ride, new foals, calving and so on. I had gotten busy and was just working colts. Forgetting to stop, just relax and pettin on them. So I took the day and just spent some time with the colts petting and doing some light work.
Guess what --- I had a different pen of young colts when I was done.
